LARC (IUS/IUCD)

Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARC) are the most effective reversible contraceptive methods. The major benefit of LARC equated with other reversible contraceptive methods is that they do not require ongoing effort on the part of the patient for long-term and effective use. Also, once the device is removed, fertility gain is rapid.

In this method, a coil is inserted by a doctor and lasts anywhere between three to seven years, depending on which type or brand you get. It can easily be removed at any time. The main difference between the IUD and the IUS is that one releases copper ions (IUD) and the other releases hormones (IUS).

LARC Implanon

Implanon is a contraceptive used to prevent pregnancy. A contraceptive implant is a flexible plastic rod about the size of a matchstick that is placed under the skin of the upper arm. It releases a low, steady dose of a pregestational hormone to thicken cervical mucus and thin the lining of the uterus (endometrium). Contraceptive implants typically suppress ovulation as well.
